Finca La Luz: Information on Seville and Andalusia - Spain
Seville
The capital city of Andalusia is the best place for those who like exuberant joy, religious controversy en historic resources. In every season you can enjoy them: in springtime when the orange blossom smells and Holy Week ("Semana Santa") and April fair ("Feria de abril") are celebrated, in summer when parks and historic buildings offer coolness, in autumn when beaches empty, in wintertime when temperatures are soft.
Seville, patio of Andalusia, where once upon a time Moors, Jews and Christians used to live together in peace and harmony, from where Cristobal Colombo and Amerigo Vespucci sailed off to discover the new world, city of Carmen and Figaro.
Seville , capital city of the flamenco, pure and strong expression of the proud and tragic Andalusian soul. But also city of the "sevillanas", of the many bars where it is good to taste tapas, of animation when a corrida is going on in the bullring of the "Real Maestranza".
"Quien no vio Sevilla, no vio maravilla" (who didn't see Seville , didn't see the marvel).
Carmona
"Lucero de Europa" (Star of Europe ).
Only some 30 km away from Seville , in the fertile plains of "la Campiña",
arises a rock on which is build the picturesque city of Carmona . Its roots go
back until prehistory. Nowadays look, with its small streets and squares, is
due to the Moors who called it Karmounah.
From its rich history remain a lot of buildings and monuments representing all styles that ever have occurred in Andalusia : from the simplicity of the Romanesque via the charm of the oriental to the extravaganza of the baroque. It is no surprise that the city will soon be declared Inheritance of Humanity (UNO) and that it is here that one of the most beautiful national paradores of Spain is established.
Mairena del Alcor
Halfway the road between Seville and Carmona, this nice settlement is enclosed by "Los Alcores", a row of low hills that fence off the "campiña Sevillana" in the north. The place lived various civilizations such as the Iberian, the Roman and the Moorish. It is this last one that has left behind a main cultural legacy. Of interest are the fortress "Castillo de Luna", built on a Moorish tower, with its archaeological collection, and the mudéjar-style Dukes of Arcos "Casa Palacio". Every year Mairena is the first to inaugurate the season of the fairs since the local one is celebrated just one week before Sevilles "Feria de abril". In September the famous Festival de Cante Jondo "Antonio Mairena", enjoys the fans of authentic flamenco.
The Sierra
The western part of the "Sierra Morena", located in the provinces of Huelva and Seville , is called "Sierra de Aracena" and "Sierra Norte de Seville". Both form a whole characterized by its vegetation: grass-land ("dehesa") and Mediterranean forests. This region is very attractive for the combination of its overwhelming landscape, beautiful villages, possibilities to exercise pedestrianism and the famous Iberian cured ham.
